The following are the basic maintenance guidelines on your Civilian Bulletproof Vest. Proper maintenance is necessary for your civilian bulletproof vest so that it will give you excellent protection and service throughout its life span.
1. Treat your civilian bulletproof vest like your ordinary garment that needs regular washing in order to clean your vest and remove the bacteria that can possibly build up. Washing will also eliminate the foul odor from perspiration and others that have stick and accumulated to the civilian bulletproof vest. 2. When washing, the armor panels and trauma pads and other ballistic inserts should be removed from the carrier. This is because these they are to be cleaned with special care and not to be immersed in water. Immersing it in water can degrade the materials used on the civilian bulletproof vest. The armor carrier may or may not be machine washed. Check the washing instructions on the right thing to do on your vest. Use mild soap and sponge or damp cloth when washing. 3. Do not dry your civilian bulletproof vest under direct sunlight for long period because UV rays can affect the fibers of the vest. Possible degradation on the fibers is possible that can cause a decrease in its ballistic performance. 4. Properly store your civilian bulletproof vest in a well ventilated area. Also do not store your vest damp from washing or moisture because of mould growth. Lay it on a flat position away from other things or equipment. Placing equipments beside it or over the vest may cause curling or creases on the vest. 5. Make regular inspections on the vest especially before wearing it. Pay attention to unusual wears, loosened fastener, separations in stitching and other damages. These should be repaired immediately to prevent more serious damages on your civilian bulletproof vest.
